Welcome to Youth with an OPEN mind . com

Who We Are
Youth 'with an OPEN mind' is a group of Thunder Bay teens who want to reduce the myths and misconceptions surrounding mental illness.
Our Main Goal
Our main goal is to stop the stigma surrounding mental illness. We want to talk openly about mental illness like we do about other illnesses, like diabetes or asthma.
Most mental health problems emerge in childhood or adolescence - half of all people who suffer from depression, for instance, are first affected before their 20th birthday.
When people understand that mental illness is not caused by a moral failing or lack of willpower, but are legitimate illnesses that are responsive to specific treatments, much of the negative stereotyping will end.
Join Us
Youth with an OPEN mind is looking for youth interested in making your peers and community more aware of mental illness and to decrease the stigma that is typically associated with it. This is your chance to stand up and help the 20% of youth in your school and community who struggle with mental illness on a daily basis.
